Welcome to East and North Taunton’s festival of light taking place this winter – Nocturnal Nightlights, Window Wanderland
21 November – 6 December 2020 6-9 pm
It’s not too late to make your window displays and lanterns! Also be sure to keep an eye out for some extra pop up installations during the final weekend (4th – 6th). If you happen to be going past Priorswood Community Centre on the 4th you may spot a beautiful nocturnal wildlife animation by Richard Tomlinson from Somerset Film at the Engine Room and artist Andrea Oke. Then a wonderful light garden will be popping up in Halcon on the 4th and in Priorswood on the 5th, keep an eye out for the giant willow owl! See our project blog for more details: https://nocturnalnightlights.wordpress.com/
It is the perfect way to brighten up your neighbourhood in the dark months by creating designs for your windows and lanterns or light sculptures for your front gardens. Fun, local, all-people-friendly, community window and garden displays can be explored through walking trails, come out and see your neighbourhood in a new creative light! We are delighted to be bringing this fantastic event to your area and with your help we will transform the streets into a magical outdoor gallery for all to enjoy.
Take Part Taking part is FREE and everyone is welcome. You can make a display in the window of your flat, house, business, school, nursery, car, campervan, shop – or in your front garden. We want your help to celebrate the amazing nocturnal wildlife around us such as owls, hedgehogs and bats, badgers, foxes, and moths. Or even invent your own magical or imaginary creatures and scenes. Please don’t feel intimidated. Your display could be as simple as a candle, a lantern, a book, fairy-lights in a window or light up your garden. Or you could go all out and stage a performance in your front room or garden! Anything goes… as long as it’s family friendly! As Window Wanderland displays are self-contained in people’s homes and gardens, they are COVID-safe and do not run the risk of being cancelled. please tell your friends and neighbours and encourage them to get involved!
